I pick things up, and put them down.

Courtney and I have begun our journey to get lean and mean.. buff and tough.. ripped and shredded. OK. maybe not- but we did started our weight training yesterday after a quick 30 minute run on the treadmill. My first run since the half marathon! Surprisingly I felt rather good, well other than the fact Gramps at the Y yelled at me for having my phone out for 2.5 seconds- so I was a little peeved.

I’m excited for this whole training plan we’ve got going on… it’s so much more motivating with a partner, rather than just doing whatever I feel like, whenever I want. It’s going to be good.. I hope! Recovery will be key so I invested in some MORE protein powder for my smoothies and just to have on hand. I got some Chocolate flavored protein powder and today I made a pretty stellar smoothie after an easy-ish 1 hr. spin on the bike..

here’s how it goes..

  • 1 cup of light soy milk or unsweetened almond milk (flavored or not- doesn’t matter)
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 large banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • large handful of baby spinach
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • 1/2 t. xanthan gum
  • 1 T chia seeds (and more to garnish)

Blend until smooth.. and enjoy :)

Protein is one thing I try to incorporate into every meal, so having protein powder on hand is one of the easiest ways I find to balance out a meal- especially weight training to re-fuel those muscles! and if it’s a smoothie like this- it’s something to look forward to ;)

…what do YOU look forward to after working out?
